i've been hearing and reading about micro loans changing people's lives for the last few years, always curious about how it works and how i could possibly be involved. now i just heard there's an easy way for people like us to help people who are less fortunate in the 3rd world.
these loans were once only given by banks who wanted huge interests (making it really difficult for the borrowers), but now there's a way for people like you and me to help. i saw this tonight on frontline/world it's called kiva , check out the site and you can donate with paypal and just upload as much or as little (25 bucks) as you can. you're basically loaning your money.

coming out of work, I saw Amy Goodman of democracy now. I saw her give a speech at my school many years ago.
saw watchmen over the weekend and I thought it was a pretty good MOVIE.
Also enjoy nick pitera's cover of one of the more perfect songs from disney. He sings it with just the right emotion.

James Earl Jones is no Pugilist
Jan. 23rd, 2009 | 11:54 pm
The Great white hope is a 1967 play written by Howard Sackler that won James Earl Jones (the voice of Darth Vader for you few that don't know) a bunch of Tony awards. In 1970 the play was made into a film. The same actors were used. Jones, a fine actor whose deep basso voice immediately invokes images of power and general badass-ness delivers an unintentionally comical performance in the film. Here’s the trailer.
The story is about Jack Johnson, the first black heavy weight boxing champion. There was a documentary about him a few years ago that was brilliant. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Johns on_(boxer)
Ok back to James Earl Jones. The trailer did a great job of not showing too much actual punching from Jones. This is because Jones punches like a slap (a bitchslap). He is almost slapping his fists, instead of throwing his punches from the hips (generating more power and an overall pleasant esthetic); he is upright and jabbing with the grace of a marionette. Jones is clearly a lefty, when he’s swinging with his right hand the appearance is that of someone who shouldn’t be in the ring, it is awkward and bizarre. His acting in the film was great but when he got in the ring, the illusion was broken, I chuckled. After watching that movie, I actually gave more props to Stallone for his boxing in Rocky (swing as hard as you can from 5 feet away, we’ll suspend our disbelief).

friends, i am alive!
I was just going thru my old emails, my hotmail, my gmail, my old juno mail. it's like going back in time. You could actually have a pretty good account of my life in these emails. As much as I love email, it's a shame we don't write letters anymore. There's something special about reading paper. I've been sending out postcards in bunches recently, and I am so tempted to send some letters too.

my EYEZ! THESE GOGGLES THEY DO NOTHING!
Nov. 1st, 2008 | 03:00 pm
I went to the halloween parade with a bunch of friends yesterday, my monkey mask looked great, but failing in a very important functionality. ( I had no peripheral vision at all, the holes were too small)
I had the only camera with batteries that didn't die so I was relegated to photo monkey taking pictures of friends posing with butt flashers. It wasn't nearly as interesting as it use to be. But we did walk the length of the parade cracking jokes. The weather was just about perfect for this. I hope the weather next year is the same.
But I didn't post on here just for halloween updates. I'm here to implore everyone out there who is undecided on who to vote for to not vote! please don't vote. yes you! undecided voter on nov 1. If you haven't paid any attention these last TWO years on the candidates and the issues, you should not vote. you are wasting someone else's vote. I've been seeing tons of these Celebrity ads imploring people to go out and vote! Do larger turn outs insure fairer elections? These voters should be educated on the issues. You Should know what the candidates stand for, what they plan to do. Your civic duty doesn't start and end on election day.
My brother has a theory about these "undecided voters", they will swing more towards Mccain. These are voters who probably haven't crossed over to obama because of more unsavory reasons than his policies. And instead of saying it to the pollsters they just say they're undecided. Rationally speaking, I can't find many reasons to vote for Mccain. But this isn't like 2004 where Kerry was running on the not Bush platform, Barak Obama is different. Instead of getting all wonky and listing his policies and what not, Obama's plans don't make you bang your head and go, why? As we've noticed from the last 8 years we can see how well trickle down economics works. So far all we've seen is the government filtering public money into private corporations, Has this money trickled down to you? Imagine if social security had gone to the stock market. Wow remember how they tried to sneak that one by us?
How can anyone who's paid attention want this type of policy to continue for another 4 years. So you "undecided voters", out there, stay home! YOU CRUMBUMS.

i know seperating the country from the government is hard to do for some people, but I thought the show last night was aces. 15k people! Everyone wanted to be a part of the show.
very well done. The little kids holding the Flag was probably my favorite part (my brother and I figured the little girl with the pigtail behiind the flag represented us), well maybe a tie, the Yao Ming and little kid with the flag was pretty great too.

needle jabbing
Dec. 16th, 2007 | 01:01 pm
i just poked myself with a hypodermic needle twice this morning. the first time was when i was looking for it, and the second time was about 2 minutes ago when i forgot it was still on my desk. worry not friends! the needle was filled with ink. a few years ago i figured i can refill these brush pens with a needle instead of buying a new pen. so it's my cheap craftiness that has gotten me injured.
here's some new things
it's alittle old with rudy and his 9/11 tourettes.
and this one relates to ny anime fest. i did really well, (by my standards) i actually did better than breaking even. those cards i made really sold well and i was recognized by a few people though a couple thought jrtistic.com was actually a girl. this image is from my latest blog entry in my site.
